A bottleneck is a point in the supply chain where capacity constraints slow down the overall process, such as a limited production station or delayed supplier. Bottlenecks reduce throughput and can cause inventory build-ups upstream. Identifying and relieving bottlenecks is key to maintaining smooth inventory flow and improving order fulfillment. Tools like value stream mapping and constraint-based planning help in proactively managing such constraints.
